Course overview
Throughout the semester our Digital Marketing course has taught given us a comprehensive introduction in the marketing world. Utilizing tools like SEO, website development, email marketing, and social media marketing to make our own website and social media post, made this course especially valuable. The overall structure of this course, with content schedules, discussion post, and various assignments, my overall digital marketing skills have been improved greatly.
Theoretical Knowledge Gained
Throughout the course we explored many different topics in order to strengthen our digital marketing abilities, including:
- Search Engine optimization (SEO)
- Keyword Strategy
- Social media Marketing
- Content Planning/Content Scheduling
- Email Marketing
- Digital Consumer Behavior
The topic helped me understand help to use digital marketing in a professional setting, and how to maximize my use out of each strategy.
Practical Project Summary
Something very unique about this course was that there was an emphasize on hands-on learning through real-life projects. We completed:
- Customer persona creation
- Website development and design
- AI-assisted content creation
- SEO keyword research and optimization
Key Skills Acquired
By the end of the course I have developed various technical marketing skills that are very valuable, for example:
- Web analytics using Google’s GA4
- Email marketing automation
- Website management and content scheduling
- Performance tracking
Before this course, I had never created or managed a website like this before. Being able to create email automation that sync up with my blog post was also a really valuable and interesting skill to learn. Learning how to find/read GA4 analytics I think will help me immensely in the future, as well.
AI Tool Utilization Experience
Our professor was dead set on us using ChatGPT for a lot of our assignments. there is an obvious controversy surrounding AI and if it is an ethical source for gathering data because of the adverse environmental effects. I tried my very best this semester to use ChatGPT as little as possible. And though that meant a lot of my assignments took longer to finish – I was still able to finish them without relying on AI. When I did absolutely have to use AI because I wasn’t able to find the data. I used Claude.AI, in my experience Claude works better than ChatGPT, and it did help me to understand data-driven markets.
Data Analysis Capabilities
One of my favorite parts of this course was analyzing the data we had spent all semester creating to see what our blog has been doing. We used:
- Google reviews to analysis customer feedback
- Website performance tracking using Google Analytics 4
- Measuring user engagement and behavior
By using these different techniques I was able to see who looked at my blog, where they were from, how they accessed my blog, and which blog post they looked at and for how long. Seeing the influence my LinkedIn had, as well as, my blog was a really cool part of this project.
Real Company Analysis Experience
As another part of this course, we were tasked with analyzing two real companies that we either work at, or would like to work at. I chose Menards, because I work there, and Synchrony Financial, because I would like to work there. Throughout the semester I developed different marketing recommendation for each company, this included indemnifying strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for growth.
Social Media Utilization
I used LinkedIn for my main social media utilization, and the way I utilized it was by:
- Sharing course projects and insights
- Tagging business I wrote blogs about
- Building my personal brand
Through this experience I have become more comfortable using my social media to promote my professional work.

Personal Growth
This course has helped me grow both professionally and personally. I have become more confident in my ability to advertise, not only business and brands, but myself. I recently applied for a Marketing Coordinator, and I referred to this blog multiple times because a lot of the criteria that was needed for the position, I had done on this blog. My overall goal is to strengthen my skills, and continue developing in any way possible. I hope to pursue marketing professional in industries that I feel passionate about.
